Croatia Digital Nomad Visa 2026 | Requirements & Guidelines

    No Comments3 Mins Read

The Croatia Digital Nomad Visa allows non-EU/EEA nationals to live in Croatia for up to a year while working remotely for a foreign employer or running their own overseas business. Croatia, as a Schengen Member, grants digital nomads the added benefit of travel throughout the Schengen area during their stay. This guide provides an overview of the eligibility requirements, application steps, tax benefits, and associated costs for the Croatia Digital Nomad Visa.

Overview of the Croatia Digital Nomad Visa

Eligibility: The Croatia Digital Nomad Visa is available to non-EU/EEA citizens who work remotely for an employer or business outside Croatia. Eligible professionals include freelancers, consultants, vloggers, bloggers, and remote employees.

Duration: Valid for up to one year. A new application can be submitted six months after the initial permit expires.

Tax Benefits: Digital nomads are exempt from paying Croatian income tax on foreign-sourced earnings. Croatia also has an exemption from double taxation, so if taxes are paid in your home country, you are not subject to Croatian taxes.

Schengen Area Travel: Croatia’s Schengen membership allows digital nomads to travel within other Schengen countries freely during their stay.

Low Cost of Living: Croatia offers a relatively affordable lifestyle compared to other European countries. Family members may also join the primary visa holder.

Requirements for the Croatia Digital Nomad Visa

To qualify for the visa, applicants need:

    • Valid Passport: Must be valid for at least three months beyond the intended stay.
    • Proof of Income: Monthly income of at least €2,539.31 or an annual bank balance of €30,471 as of March 2025.
    • Health Insurance: Coverage valid in Croatia.
    • Proof of Accommodation: Lease agreement or similar documentation.
    • Clean Criminal Record: Certificate required from the applicant’s country of residence.

    Road to Citizenship

After five years of continuous residence in Croatia on a digital nomad visa, individuals may be eligible for permanent residency, paving the way for Croatian citizenship.

    Required Documentation

    1. Valid Passport
    2. Health Insurance Proof: Coverage for the entire duration of stay.
    3. Proof of Remote Work: Documentation demonstrating remote work capabilities (employment letter, client contracts, etc.).
    4. Clean Criminal Record Certificate
    5. Proof of Temporary Residence in Croatia: Lease agreement or other valid proof of residence.
    6. Financial Proof: Bank statements, income proof, and salary slips demonstrating sufficient income.

Application Process for the Croatia Digital Nomad Visa

Step 1: Choose an Application Method
Applications can be submitted online or in person at a Croatian embassy or consulate. If a visa is required for entry, apply through an embassy or consulate.

Step 2: Complete and Submit Application

Fees vary based on the application location.
